Keebye: On-Device Push-to-Talk Dictation for Enhanced Productivity
Keebye is an innovative push-to-talk dictation software designed for Mac and Windows, enabling users to convert spoken words into text directly on their computer. Its primary purpose is to significantly accelerate text input, making it ideal for professionals who demand speed and privacy in their daily workflows.
Targeting developers, AI entrepreneurs, and anyone who frequently interacts with terminals or needs to quickly articulate thoughts, Keebye streamlines communication by allowing users to speak at 150 WPM, far surpassing typical typing speeds.
Key Features
- On-Device Speech-to-Text: All transcription runs locally on your machine, ensuring privacy and eliminating cloud dependency.
- Push-to-Talk Hotkey: Dictate by holding a customizable hotkey (e.g., Right ⌘ on Mac, Right Windows key on PC), with a tap-to-toggle option for longer dictations.
- Terminal-Aware Insertion: Seamlessly pastes text into focused applications, including terminals, with smart chunking and synthetic typing that works over SSH and inside tmux.
- Intelligent Transcript Cleanup: Automatically strips fillers, false starts, and doubled words, with an optional on-device LLM polish pass for refined output.
- Multilingual Support & Custom Dictionary: Offers English-tuned (Parakeet) and 25-language (Canary) engines, plus Apple's native engine on Mac, alongside a custom dictionary for product names and jargon.
- Privacy & Security: Refuses insertion into secure password fields on Mac and operates without telemetry or audio uploads.
Use Cases
Keebye is particularly beneficial for developers and AI entrepreneurs who manage complex workflows involving multiple AI agents or terminal sessions. Imagine dictating commands like "merge lane one, then draft the changelog" directly into your terminal, even over SSH or within tmux, without lifting your hands for typing. This capability allows for a fluid interaction with development environments, accelerating tasks like code refactoring, test management, and documentation.
Beyond technical roles, Keebye serves as a powerful productivity tool for anyone looking to overcome typing speed limitations. Whether drafting emails, writing reports, or brainstorming ideas, users can articulate their thoughts at the speed of speech, ensuring that ideas are captured instantly and accurately. The ability to clean up messy dictations into polished text further enhances its utility for professional communication.
Pricing Information
Keebye offers a generous 14-day free trial, requiring no credit card, which provides full access to all features and models. Following the trial, users can opt for a Pro monthly plan at $19.99/month (with a special first month offer of $9.99) or a Pro Lifetime plan for a one-time payment of $199.99. All paid plans include every feature, model, and future update, ensuring continuous value.
User Experience and Support
The user experience is designed for efficiency and privacy. The push-to-talk mechanism is intuitive, and the ability to clean up transcripts by default ensures professional output. Keebye maintains a local, text-only history of dictations for 30 days and allows users to customize their dictionary for accurate jargon transcription. Comprehensive support is available through a setup guide, an extensive FAQ section, and direct contact options, ensuring users can quickly get started and resolve any queries.
Technical Details
Keebye runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 11+) and 64-bit Windows 10/11 PCs. It leverages high-performance, on-device speech engines like Parakeet (English) and Canary (25 languages), along with Apple's native engine on Mac. An optional local LLM provides an advanced polish pass for transcripts. Crucially, audio processing, transcription, and data storage (local history) all occur entirely on the user's machine, with network usage limited to model downloads, updates, and plan confirmation.
